About Durolane

Durolane is an non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid orthopedic transparent gel injectable that is
used to reduce pain and swelling in the joints for people who are suffering from osteoarthritis.
The main component of this product is non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid which is injected
between the patient’s joints. The hyaluronic acid aids in improving mobility in hips, knees, or
other joints where the product is applied.

What is Durolane used for?

Durolane is used to reduce pain and discomfort for people suffering from osteoarthritis. This
viscosupplement can be used in conjunction with other forms of therapy such as pain killers,
lifestyle changes, and rehabilitation to manage osteoarthritis.

How do Durolane Products work?

Durolane is formulated as an injectable gel to be injected between joints affected by
osteoarthritis. This forms a protective layer of hyaluronic acid between worn out ends of bones
that cushions and reduces friction in the joint, which then reduces pain and swelling, increasing
the patient’s mobility.

How to use Durolane Products?

Durolane is an injectable filler that is implanted in between the patient’s joints. This product must
be administered by properly trained health professionals as its effectiveness is greatly
dependent on it’s correct usage and placement. The recommended dose is dependent on the
affected joint and the severity of the patient’s osteoarthritis.

How long do the effects of Durolane last?

Pain relief and improved mobility brought about by the injection of Durolane typically lasts
around 6 to 8 months due to the stability of the cross-linked hyaluronic acid being used.
However, the duration of the effect can be affected by the age or level of activity of the patient
and other factors.

Are Durolane Products Safe?

As long as it is applied correctly, Durolane has been proven safe and has minimal side effects.
The active ingredient, hyaluronic acid, is naturally occuring in the human body, so there will be
few instances wherein a reaction occurs. The process of extracting the hyaluronic acid involves
sterilization of the cultures and removal of any harmful endotoxins and proteins. Most of these
side effects are short-lived
● Temporary joint pain
● Stiffness
● Swelling
● Tenderness of the affected area
These symptoms should be gone within 7 days. Patients are encouraged to monitor their
injection site and report to their physician in case any other reactions occur or if the symptoms
worsen or persist. For more details, please refer to the package insert.

Are there any contraindications associated with Durolane Products?

Hypersensitivity to any of the components in the gel should be considered, and patients who
have such hypersensitivity should avoid using this product.
Please also note that the safety of this implant has not been determined for pregnant or
lactating women
