Radiesse For Under Eyes Explained

12 September

Why do under eye bags appear?

The area under the eyes is just as vulnerable to the signs of aging as any other part of the body. As functions within the body start to slow down and weaken, the underlying structure tissue in the eye area begins to weaken. This includes the muscles that support the eyelids, and the fluid and fat shift. The fluid and fat may then gather in areas like the area under the eyes and the lower eyelids, which can lead to puffiness and swelling in these areas. Whether the area under the eyes are saggy, loose, swollen, or have dark hollows, these are all considered under eye bags. While aging can be a huge factor for most people in the development of under eye bags, for some people it is simply hereditary and can appear whenever, regardless of age. However, whether under eye bags appear because of genetics or aging, there are some factors that can worsen their appearance, including lack of sleep, allergies, increased fluid retention, or lifestyle choices like smoking.

Can Radiesse help treat under eye issues?

Radiesse is a popular injectable dermal filler solution for the treatment of under eye bags, due in part because of its unique material composition. Though some physicians use hyaluronic acid gel fillers, many prefer Radiesse because it is primarily made of calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) microspheres. Calcium hydroxyapatite is a substance that is commonly found in human bones, but is made biosynthetically when included in semi-permanent dermal fillers like Radiesse. Doctors prefer Radiesse to treat issues in the under eye area such as dark circles, wrinkles and fine lines, eye bags, and mild puffiness because the microspheres are not able to only instantly add volume to the area they also act as a stimulant, increasing the production of collagen within the skin over time. Over time, the injectable dermal filler material is metabolized by the skin, and all that is left behind is the natural collagen that the Radiesse injectable helped to create. Many patients prefer Radiesse over hyaluronic acid-based fillers because the results are longer lasting.

How long does treatment last?

While treatment with hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane typically last around 4 to 9 months, patients who receive under eye treatment using Radiesse can look forward to results that last from 9 to 18 months, and sometimes longer. However, results will always vary by patient, as there are many factors that determine the rate at which the body may metabolize the material. For instance, the age and lifestyle of the patient, as well as the method of injection used to administer the treatment may all affect the duration of the effect.

Risks

Dermal injection filler treatment is a medical procedure, and as such, it does come with some risks. However, it is important to note that these risks are unlikely so long as the doctor administering the injections is licensed, experienced, and knowledgeable in facial anatomy and dermal injections. Risks include irregular or uneven appearance, scarring of the skin, or blindness if the filler is injected into a blood vessel. When administered by a licensed injector, these risks are extremely rare and unlikely to happen.
