Frequently Asked Questions About Neurobloc
NeuroBloc is a botulinum type B neurotoxin complex that in indicated for cervical dystonia. This biopharmaceutical solution aims to relieve sustained or periodic neck muscle contractions that can cause abnormal twisting and positioning of the neck.
The toxin prevents the release of acetylcholine from nerve terminals, which leads to the relaxation of muscles. This neurotoxin should only be handled licensed injectors.
NeuroBloc should be stored between 2°C and 8°C and away from direct sunlight, heat, and freezing temperatures.
What areas can be treated with NeuroBloc?
Cervical dystonia – Involuntary contractions of neck muscles or pinched nerves. This can appear as clonic or periodic spasms that can produce jerky head movements, or as sustained tonic contractions that lead to abnormal twisting of the head and neck.
Candidates aged 18 and above who are experiencing symptoms of cervical dystonia may benefit from NeuroBloc as a muscle relaxant. These symptoms may include jerking head movements due to patterned spasms and/or prolonged contractions that contort the neck posture. The dosage may apply according to the severity of the spasms and the patient’s condition.
NeuroBloc is not recommended for people who have expressed hypersensitivity towards botulinum toxins or other ingredients found in the product. It is also not applicable for individuals with other known neuromuscular diseases, such as peripheral neuropathy, or individuals with known neuromuscular junctional disorders, such as Lambert-Eaton syndrome.
Only trained and licensed physicians should perform this treatment. The initial dose is usually 10,000 units, although this dose may be lower or higher. These units are specific to NeuroBloc and cannot be used interchangeably with other botulinum toxin brands.
Dilute NeuroBloc with sodium chloride 9mg/ml solution for injection and use it immediately. It is recommended to repeat the treatment every 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the patient’s response and clinical assessment. Adjust dosage according to the patient’s muscle mass and condition severity.
How does it work?
In comparison to botulinum toxin type A, which is available as freeze dried powders, botulinum toxin type B is available as a ready-to-use solution.
Botulinum toxin type B acts as a muscle relaxant and binds extracellularly to specific receptors in motor nerve terminals. It inhibits the release of acetylcholine from the nerve endings of neuromuscular junctions. This action reduces the stimulation of the muscle contraction as it diffuses the neuromuscular transmission. As a result, it causes temporary localized paralysis, relaxing the stiff muscles.
Botulinum toxin should only be administered intramuscularly to the affected muscles and should not be injected into blood vessels or other vulnerable areas of the body.
When should my patient come back for treatment?
The duration depends on the patient’s clinical response and condition. Past clinical and pharmacological studies have shown that the muscles will return to their original condition in 12 to 16 weeks (3 to 4 months) after the initial injection. It is recommended to repeat the treatment in order to better manage the disorder.
Reported side effects
It is not recommended to use this injectable to treat pregnant or breastfeeding patients. Botulinum toxins is strictly indicated for intramuscular injection.

The patient will experience the full effects within the first 4 weeks. The results will gradually wear off after 12 to 16 weeks.
