Prevelle Silk vs Juvederm: Similarities and Differences Explained

Prevelle Silk vs Juvederm: Similarities and Differences Explained

Similarities Between Juvederm Fillers and Prevelle Silk

Juvederm fillers and Prevelle Silk can, generally speaking, remove wrinkles and folds on the skin, such as deep nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and forehead lines; improve acne scarring; and add fullness to the skin. Additionally, the effects of these fillers are temporary.

Source of Hyaluronic Acid

Prevelle Silk is one of the first hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers approved by the FDA. It is a derivative of an older dermal filler called Hylaform, and its hyaluronic acid is of bacterial origin. The hyaluronic acid of Juvederm fillers is also sourced from bacterial fermentation, and these fillers have also received FDA approval. The processed hyaluronic acid molecules of Prevelle Silk and Juvederm fillers have a low risk of causing foreign particle invasion and assault, as they are forms a high biointegration with the surrounding soft tissue.

Injection Type

When it comes to administration, Juvederm fillers and Prevelle Silk are injected intradermally. An intradermal injection of any of these fillers can take about less than an hour and is noninvasive. Treatment with any of these fillers is considered a lunch time procedure because of how swift it is; indeed, patients can resume their routines right after treatment.

Minimal Downtime

Prevelle Silk and Juvederm fillers promise minimal downtime. With the proper aftercare after treatment with any of these fillers, patients can reduce associated complications and side effects. The side effects of these fillers may include redness, swelling, bruises, or tenderness at the injection site. Generally, these side effects can resolve within 48 hours to a week if the patient complies with several steps, such as not performing strenuous exercises for 48 hours and treatment and reducing exposure to sun rays and hot temperatures.

Differences Between Juvederm Fillers and Prevelle Silk

Cross-linking Agents

The main difference between these fillers lies in their respective concentration and cross-linking agent used for the formation of their hyaluronic acid gel. Juvederm fillers use 1,4-butandiol diglycidyl ether (BDDE) as the reticulating agent to form hyaluronic acid at a concentration of 24mg/ml. Prevelle Silk, on the other hand, has a lower HA concentration compared to Juvederm fillers,  as it contains 5.5mg/ml of hyaluronic acid and has 20% cross-linking with Divinyl sulfone (DVS).

Dermal Filler Effects and Its Capacity

Prevelle Silk’s composition resists swelling over time, as it is designed to have a low lift capacity in the skin. Therefore, it is more appropriate for it to be used for correcting the tear trough region and mild to moderate nasolabial folds and creases; it is also suitable for being used in lip augmentation and acne scarring removal. There is a low risk of the Tyndall effect occurring with this filler. Prevelle Silk is highly biocompatible and viscoelastic.

Juvederm fillers are more robust and consequently stronger against external and internal pressure. Their thicker concentration allows for a greater volumizing effect in larger sunken areas, such as the chin and cheeks. Compared to Prevelle Silk, Juvederm fillers are more resorbable and more ideal for being injected into the in mid-to-deep dermis.

Type of Treatment

Patients that undergo treatment with a Juvederm filler should be confident with their practitioner and have realistic expectations with the treatment. Some practitioners have noted that using Prevelle Silk for tester or “pilot” treatments on new patients may be ideal to assess the gel’s contouring capabilities. Such an approach is suitable for those who are using a dermal filler for the first time and have a lower budget for the treatment.

Patients can relax in case a Juvederm filler or Prevelle Silk does not achieve their expectations because these fillers all have a short duration of action. This is especially true with Prevelle Silk, as an injection of it lasts for somewhere between two to four months. If the patient is satisfied with the aesthetic appearance created by this dermal implant, their practitioner can proceed injecting a filler from other brands such as Juvederm, whose fillers can last from anywhere between six months to 18 months.

Pain-Free Management

Some patients may wonder if treatment with a Juvederm filler is safer than treatment with Prevelle Silk or if the injection process is safe for all areas. Prevelle Silk incorporates 0.3% lidocaine in its gel, thereby eradicating the burning sensation caused by the needle puncture and the flow of the gel. For the Juvederm fillers that do not have lidocaine, a topical lidocaine cream may need to be applied to the treatment area prior to treatment. The XC line from Juvederm offers integrated lidocaine.

There are many aspects of a dermal filler that one should discuss with their clients before proceeding with treatment. Since each individual may have different demands, having a variety of dermal fillers ready in your clinic can help you provide more satisfactory service. One suggestion is to provide Prevelle Silk as an initial treatment on patients to define the shape and mold of the filler. If the results are impressive, youthful, and natural-looking, then you can then turn to a Juvederm implant to give your patients longer-lasting facial rejuvenation.
